5 types of brides I have met over the last 16 years. If you asked me what a bride is like, I could not answer you. Because after more than 16 years of working with wedding dresses, I have learned that no two brides are the same. No two stories are the same. No two fittings are the same. Not even two reactions are the same when a woman puts on the dress of her dreams. And yet, over the years, I started to notice certain patterns. Not because all brides are alike, but because each of us approaches choosing her dress in a different way. As you read, you will probably recognise yourself in one of these types. Or perhaps in a little of each.
1. The bride on a mission
She walks into the boutique prepared. She has dozens of saved photos on her phone. She has followed collections, browsed websites and knows the designers’ names. She usually chooses a style from our luxury wedding dresses. Sometimes she even knows the exact style she wants to try on – this is the bride who does not come to browse, she comes to find the dress. Interestingly, these are very often the brides who decide the fastest. They have already done much of the work in advance, and when they see the right dress on themselves, they simply know. Sometimes they try one or two more styles for comparison, sometimes they try nothing else.
2. The explorer bride
For her the fitting is part of the adventure – she wants to see different silhouettes, feel different fabrics, find out how she looks as a princess, as a mermaid, as a modern minimalist bride. These women often come with an open mind and are ready to experiment. They do not rush; they enjoy the process. And that is exactly why they often make the most interesting discoveries. Sometimes the dress they choose has absolutely nothing in common with what they imagined before the fitting.

3. The bride who surprises herself
This is perhaps my favourite type. She walks in convinced she knows what she wants. Then she puts on a dress she would never have chosen herself, and everything changes. Over the years I have seen brides who came for a clean dress fall in love with lavish lace. I have seen women convinced they wanted a full skirt choose an elegant straight line. I have seen brides who did not even glance at a style on the hanger and then did not want to take it off. It is exactly these moments that make my work so interesting, because sometimes the dress chooses the bride, not the other way round.
4. The diplomat bride
She wants everyone to be happy. Her mother likes one dress, the maid of honour another, her friend a third. And she tries to hear every opinion and make the best decision. I understand her completely – choosing a wedding dress is an important moment, and it is only natural to want the support of the people closest to us. But there is something that almost always happens. At some point the bride realises she has to stop listening to everyone else and listen to herself, because on the wedding day what matters most is not which dress your mother or your maid of honour liked. What matters most is how you feel.

5. The bride who just knows
This type is the calmest. No drama, no hesitation, no big speeches. She looks in the mirror and says: “This is it.” Sometimes there are no tears, sometimes no applause, and sometimes not even a particularly strong reaction. Just a calm feeling that the search is over – and, strange as it may sound, it is exactly these brides who most often stay completely calm and confident in their choice right up to the wedding day.
The truth is, there is no right type of bride
Some women find their dress in thirty minutes, others need more time. Some know what they want before they even walk into the boutique, others fall in love with a style they never imagined. And do you know what? All of this is completely normal, because choosing a wedding dress is not a competition. There is no right script, no universal formula – there is only one moment that is the same for everyone. The moment you look in the mirror and see not just a beautiful dress, but yourself as a bride. That is usually when you realise you have found your dress.
So which type of bride are you?
The bride on a mission? The explorer? The diplomat? Or one of those women who just know? Perhaps you have already found your dress, or perhaps the most beautiful meeting is still to come.
