Before I start with the signs, I want to share something personal. My name is Emilia Kourkoutiadi.
I have worked in the wedding industry for more than 22 years. I started with wedding planning and decoration, and for more than 16 years now I have been helping brides find their wedding dress at Alfa Brides.
Over the years I have seen everything.
Brides who cry with happiness in the fitting room. Brides who fall silent and simply look at themselves in the mirror. Brides who arrive convinced they want one style and fall in love with a completely different one. Brides who choose their dress in five minutes. And brides who have tried on dozens of dresses before finding theirs.
But there is one thing that never changes. Every time a woman puts on her dress, the atmosphere in the salon changes.
I cannot explain it logically. You simply feel it.
After all these years I still get goosebumps when I see that moment. The mother falls silent. The friends exchange glances. The bride herself starts looking at herself differently.
Sometimes the bride says nothing. She just smiles and her eyes fill with tears. Other times the mother is the first to cry. These are moments that never get old, however many years you have worked with brides.
It is an emotion that is hard to put into words. That is exactly why I decided to share the signs that most often tell me a bride has found her dress.
1. You stop looking for flaws
Up to this point you analyse everything.
The neckline. The sleeves. The train. The lace.
When you put on the right dress, something changes. Instead of looking for what you would change, you start enjoying what you see in the mirror.
2. You start thinking about the wedding, not the dress
This is one of the surest signs. Suddenly your questions are no longer about the other styles.
You start picturing the ceremony. The first dance. The photos.
The moment the groom sees you.
By then the dress has already become part of the dream.
3. You want to see it with a veil
This happens all the time.
While you are hesitating between different styles, you rarely think about accessories. When the dress is the right one, almost every bride wants to see how she will look with a veil.
For me this is always a very telling moment.
4. You start moving differently
You no longer stand still in front of the mirror.
You walk around. You turn. You look at the train. You picture yourself walking down the aisle.
It happens completely naturally.
5. You start trusting your own feelings more
The support of your loved ones is valuable.
But when the dress is the right one, I see the bride start listening to herself more than to those around her, who in some cases even get in the way.
Because at that moment she already knows what she feels.
6. You cannot stop thinking about it
You go home. You look through the photos. You try to compare. But you keep coming back to the same dress.
This is a sign that very often turns out to be decisive.
More than once a bride has left without buying the dress straight away, only to come back a few days later and say: “I couldn’t stop thinking about it.”
7. You see yourself as a bride
This is the most important sign.
At first you see the dress. At some point you start seeing yourself. Then you are no longer judging fabrics, lace and silhouettes.
You see the woman who is about to get married.
A piece of advice from me
If there is one thing I have learned over all these years, it is this:
Do not compromise on the dress you have fallen in love with.
I have seen many brides who, years later, still remember the dress they did not buy.
Sometimes the reason was the price.
Sometimes someone else’s opinion.
Sometimes the fear that they should keep looking.
Sometimes a bride falls in love with one of our luxury wedding dresses but starts looking for an alternative simply because she is afraid to make the final choice.
But I have almost never seen a bride regret choosing the dress she truly loved.
The wedding day passes quickly.
The photos last forever.
And the best photos are the ones where you see not just a beautiful dress, but yourself – happy and confident in your choice.
