At this year’s Bridal School with Tony Mentel, brides-to-be received detailed advice on choosing their wedding dress. Under Tony Mentel’s guidance, renowned make-up and hair artists created the bridal looks of the ladies who took part in the event.

Tony Mentel is among the best-known English designers. Every year he advises nearly 70,000 brides and creates over 250 dress designs. He is coming to Bulgaria for the first time to make the dreams of Bulgarian girls come true at “Bridal School with Tony Mentel”, an event organised by Alfa Brides.

Who is Tony Mentel?
Tony Mentel was born in the United Kingdom. He graduated from the Royal College of Art in London, where he still lives and works today. He designed his first wedding dress in 1999, although at the start of his career he mainly created formal wear. He is passionate about detail and the beautiful fabrics his work as a designer allows him to use. He has always been interested in bridal wear.

“Every year I design around 250 new wedding dresses. But if you ask me how many women have worn my designs, my head starts to spin. It must have been millions! I can’t wait to meet Bulgarian brides. It is a huge source of inspiration for me!” – Mentel shares before his arrival in Bulgaria. In his view, whatever a woman looks like, the wedding dress should be like a frame for a picture. The bride should trust her preferences and highlight them. “When a bride feels comfortable in what she is wearing, she has a stunning charisma,” the designer says in an interview, adding: “I travel all over the world, visit bridal shops and meet potential clients who tell me how they want to look and feel when they get married. I simply try to listen to them and help them realise their dream dresses.”

In Sofia, Tony Mentel, who designs the “Justin Alexander” “Signature” and “Lillian West ” lines, will share the secret of the perfect wedding dress. His style in creating wedding dresses shows in the blending of clean lines with the classic construction of the 1950s. He then adds special handcrafted details. Mentel draws his inspiration from meeting brides and their families. The most common reaction to the masterpieces he creates is tears of joy.
Asked what dress a bride should choose, Tony Mentel replies:
“For me, a bride should wear a dress that reflects who she is. I aim for the lady to look confident and to be happy with the style she has chosen. She shouldn’t wear anything that makes her feel uncomfortable; she should be dressed so that she says to herself:
“Oh my God, I never believed I could look like this.”
